Some of you may remember a trilogy I did a while back on the topic of forgiveness. I thought I was done with that subject, but you just never know when something will come back around! This, the fourth in the trilogy (with apologies to Douglas Adams), was inspired by an image Corey posted a month or so ago. It was called A Quest For Forgiveness and it started me thinking again.

You know I always totally enjoy your writing. It is always thought provoking. I enjoyed going back and reviewing your trilogy. In this instance, Corey's picture really has my mind turning over. Why write it over and over in odd public places? The author must be extremely focused on his/her subject...I'm sure it must be a guy. Have you ever seen a female grafitti artist? I don't know, they may exist and particularly in a big city like Chicago. I agree with Carin's opening sentence. To hold a grudge or a need to get even or to dislike yourself for past mistakes is to put yourself in a torture chamber. Great piece. Thanks for adding to your trilogy. What should we call a trilogy plus one? :-)

Awesome and yes we are always hardest on ourselves, it's so much easier to forgive someone else because you don't expect them to live up to your expectations you set for yourself. You have a hard time with yourself because you set these expectations and now you didn't live up. Been there.

It took me a few days to digest this. Outstanding poem, spot on. It is so hard to let go, but the peace that comes after is wonderful beyond words.

Ayn Rand (Did I even bother to spell her name right?) once stated that most people cannot say "I love you" because they cannot say "I." Okay, I'm mis-quoting, since the words she said were a bit more...well...Ayn Rand-ish than what I just said, but the point is that this poem resonates because its so true. I suspect that one of the reasons it's harder for us to forgive ourselves is because we're the only ones who see us naked every day...and that can have an effect since seeing ourselves naked everyday means we see our pimples, our toenails in need of clipping, and all of our own little imperfections. I suspect that the awareness of those imperfections is what prevents us from seeing ourselves truly and forgiving ourselves, as we must. On the flip side, this is a fantastic and touching poem! Beautifully done! I'm gonna go grab Corey and tell him to read this.

Well you've done a "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish" Will there be a "Mostly Harmless"? My favorite Douglas Adams are the two Dirk Gently books. "The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul" is not only a great title but a fabulous read. I reread it, if I'm feeling blue and need a good pick-me-up. Self forgivness is very hard, and not done in a day. The could ofs and should ofs gnaw and tear at our well being. I enjoy reading the comments people write on your work. You do make us think! Wonderfully written and insightful poem.
