Description

Captured 5/25/09, at the beautiful Los Angeles National Cemetery in beautiful West Los Angeles, California. More than 86,000 veterans, going back to the Civil War, are interred there. A ZOOM is strongly recommended. Photo #1 was merely an inadvertent shot of a Southern Belle toting a bag of some sort. Looked a bit unusual, but really didn't think much of it at the time. But photo #2 shows the lady, not only fraternizing with a Bluecoat soldier, but also carrying a SLR camera, which I discovered later was used to photograph Confederate troop movements. She is shown in the process of unzipping a bag, containing of all things, a real live pooch! Ergo, an authentic doggie bag! Picture #3 shows her canine in the process of relieving itself on the lush green lawn. Nature calls. And photo #4 really reveals this Mata Hari's true identity; her most obedient dog is wearing the Stars and Stripes colors of the Union North! If she had been caught by the Southern forces with this stash she would have been executed forthwith. Or another scenario would have her as a Southern belle just posing as a Northern sympathizer. Take your pick. Cute dog though. Ta-ta, and tallyho.

That's an anomalous wheeled case for her outfit, isn't it? But what a great idea, and I love the expression on the dog's face in #3 as she seems to be talking to him/her. Cool series on "the spy"!

Doggie bag.. lol! The bag seemed a bit incongruous with her dress/costume. Great collage :)

Wonderful shots and a lot of fun! This lady is obviously on a spy mission, with her above standard issue reconnaissance tool and guard dog! :) Great capture of the little dog in the tote bag, and of the interplay between them as he fertilizes the grass.

another funny bunch, especially enhanced by your commentary. I'd not have known all that. The very fact that this southern belle, circa the Civil War, is carrying a modern nylon carrying-bag—replete with dog (good line about the doggie bag)—is funny enough. And carrying an SLR camera & standing next to the soldier in #2...But that the dog comes out and relieves himself, and then turns out to be for the 'other side'? Great stuff. These are great counterpart to the more solemn & moving shots you had before...
