Description
The Red Onion Saloon is located on 2nd Street and Broadway in Skagway, Alaska. It was the most famous bordello during the Gold Rush Days. It was begun in 1897 and started operating in 1898. The first floor served alcohol while the upper floor was divided into ten tiny rooms that served as the brothel.
In late 1898 many of the girls that worked in Skagway moved closer to Dawson where there was more action and business began to decline.
The Red Onion Saloon was moved to its current location from 6th Street and State in 1914.
It is now a restaurant and bar and is also a historical building.
