Description
A display of symmetry...join me for a gaze, won't you?
Looks really good full size.
The aircraft is a Grumman HU-16B Albatross and is classified as a flying boat. It was originally designed to fulfill a requirement of the US Navy for a search and rescue airplane that could land in the open ocean, on land with wheels and on snow with skis.
Location: National Museum of the USAF, Dayton, Ohio.

Thanks for stopping by,
Bill:)

Excellent!
I love this, the symmetry and the light, all of it!!
Great composition! I'd love to see this thing pealing back the water.
Fascinating! (No really ... I stared at this for a really long time! Looking for a Pitot tube, actually.) What are the little horns? Are those the doors or something? It looks like Underdog! (Gosh ... I did sit here for the longest time trying to figure it out, and finally it came to me. It's Underdog!)
Great shot Bill. The Air Force flew them as SA-16, same mission. They were still in service when I first joined. Am I dating myself? They must have really looked good to a downed flyer.
just wonderful!!!
Great title - looks like someone at the museum had that in mind with the display too. Helicopters seem to have replaced all their roles these days. Cheers, Clive
We had a lot of Sunderland flying boats parked in Poole not too far from us when we were children. As it was before the litigation culture was imported here, there was no Health and Safety concern, and we used to climb all over them!
I see it has a hitch-hiker on the left.. Superb capture. Aloha
What a wonderful capture
Fantastic shot!!
Excellent name for this fine photograph of such an historical plane....
interesting capture
Great image with the in-your-face radar housing.
Excellent shot, Bill. Such a grand plane. Hugs. Diane. xx
How does the mechanic get down? Excellent
Oh! Really excellent shot Bill. :)
Excellent! Not sure I would want to sit on the wing while the engines are running.
Very cool looking aircraft... but I do have a BIT of a thing for Flying Boats and planes! Lol. (Sig!) Love the colours. THIS hanger had by far the best lighting. Those strips you can really use! Lol. Great shot Bill.... I took LOADS of this! Rob. (NOt sure if they have all come out!)
Excellent POV here Bill .. beautiful shot and awesome symmetry.
Awesome! Only thing is...lol...the nose on this reminded me of Mickey Mouse right off the bat...lol It is an excellent symmetry capture Bill!!
LOL at the above comment.. I didn't think that til I read that.. great photo Bill.
Cool POV!, this is a great aircraft Bill.
You are right! Full size a must! Great work Bill!
may i say sublime? excellent shot, Bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wowwwwww Thanks for showing this :)
fantastic shot!!!
Beautiful up close and personal shot of the Albatross. I still think we need a plane like this for long range search and rescue, but I am a bit of a dinosaur.
Great clear shot, hope that fella doesn't travel where he is sat :o)
wonderful light on the flying wonder
