ADDED: Special recognition for the right answer goes to: PD154, Flavia49, goodoleboy, frankie96, auntietk, paulis75, Buffalo1 and Osper. texboy had the manufacturer identified.
ANSWER: The tail wheel belongs to a Mitsubishi A6M2 ZERO also known as a ZEKE.
For All,
The Allies' main opponent in the Pacific air war, the Zero is the most famous symbol of Japanese air power during WWII.
The fighter first flew in April 1939, and Mitsubishi, Nakajima, Hitachi, and the Japanese navy produced 10,815 Zeros from 1940-45. Zeros were produced in greater numbers than any other Japanese aircraft. Its distinctive design and historical impact made the Zero an important machine in air power history.
For Aviation Enthusiasts or those who'd just like to know a little more:)
The A6M first saw combat in China in the late summer of 1940, and it quickly helped Japan dominate the air in Asia. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, 125 Zeros from six aircraft carriers participated. In the early part of the war, Allied aircraft such as the Curtiss P-40 and the Seversky P-35 were at a disadvantage in a dogfight with a Zero flown by a skilled pilot, and the A6M became a well known and dangerous opponent.
HERE's an outstanding link from the National Museum of the USAF for this specific aircraft: Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero
Thanks for commenting of this and the previous upload concerning this unique Japanese fighter.
Bill:)

Zero score for me! Great compo, Clive
Boy glad I got in there first then LOL!...Great image Bill, and a nifty little quiz!
Oh well, never got to build that model anyway. Great quiz and idea Bill!
nice composition!
This is a very nice collage for a painful part of our history. Thanks for the link, too.
It's actually quite cute for a killing machine.
Congrats to the winners. Excellent collage!!
Well done to the ones who got it. Great collage. The pics are so clear.
great job Bill!
Great collage, Bill. The Zero was known for its maneuverability. For that reason, the heavier P-40s flown by Flying Tigers (before the USAAF takeover of the unit - they got $500 per confirmed kill) would dive on them and get out, rather than engaging in dogfights. The six .50 caliber machine guns of the P-40s did a lot of damage.
Great work Bill!!
Your historical knowledge of aviation is quite impressive... and so are your photography skills... Excellent series.... I'm enjoying your visit to the museum...
Ha ha ha, I knew it all along! That distinctive curved upslope of the tail gave it away. But how come you didn't list the names of the winners...lack of time? The POVs and lighting effects in this series of fotos are marvelous, Bill, that and terrific clarity on parade. Plus the added information about the aircraft.
Nice collage Bill!
fantastic collage!!!! excellent light!!
super fabulous quiz, i want more!
Thanks, honey! :D I figured if I had to take the blame for the close-cropped shot, I better figure out the answer! LOL! You should volunteer your services to the museum's website. They have a perfectly nice picture of this plane, but yours are better.
Good way to get people checking their facts! Picyures are indeed better than the website. HOWEVER! Just don't take a picture of a Dzuz fastner and ask us Hmm!!!! ;)
Great collage, Bill!!!!
Beautiful collage :)
I've been lucky enough to visit Pearl Harbor on a number of ocassions and always marvelled at the damage these nimble devils delivered.
excellent history and captures
Great shots. Congrats to those who knew their planes and gave correct answers.
Another Excellent collage Well done Bill
Very good shots and composition.
awesome work..fantastic capture..!!!!
Great Quiz, excellent collage, I read an interesting fact not long ago. Pictures of Zero's usually show them white or dark green, 85% of all Zero's flewn where this awful brown colour, so Top Marks to you for finding this most authentic example. This ones a keeper, thanks Bill.
Got them going! Got some fine pictures out as well. Particularly like the bottom left photo. Great POV!. Excellent. Rob.
Great collage - glad to see the perspecitves of the Zero's.
