Description
Back to the Combat Air Museum (CAM) in Topeka, Kansas.
This colorful MiG-15 has a fascinating background.
Do ZOOM...big file for details.
All of us aviation fans know it well as the first operational Soviet jet fighter after WWII and the North Korean fighter that stood up to the USAF during the Korean War, 1950-1953. There were many epic air battles between MiG-15s and F-86s.
This Black Beauty was built in Poland in 1955. Shortly after "The Wall" came down in 1989, Poland offered its' MiG-15s for sale.
This MiG-15 was purchased by a flying lawyer in Lawrence, Kansas by the name of Steve Craig. He flew it to air shows throughout the 1990s and into the early 2000s. When the engine got to be "high time", he flew it to the CAM in Topeka, parked it and handed over the keys saying, Gents, it is all yours. What a great gift!!!
For anyone wanting all the specs, here's a link to this specific aircraft at the CAM.

Mega cool Bill.Never seen an ALL black paint job before. You've really captured this icon of the early jet era.Original resident of 'Mig Alley', some fine info but a brilliant collage.BIG thanks Bill.
this looks to be a preety speedy little one...smile... and how great a gift form the guy indeed
What a story and photo coverage, Bill!
first, thanks for the info on all of these: For me, it's a total lesson. Second, I have to assume that, even if these spaces are large, you don't have all the views in the world because those huge planes are on top of you everywhere you turn. This is another example of showing us the many sides to these beasts, including that big scary shot of the front (scary to me at least!), and the over-shot where we can see how sinister it is in shadow. I love the light on the top-right one too. Another fine entry in your aviation series. And I'd not have know this was flown by the Soviet Union against our troops. I assume, to people in the service, this was a terrifying sight.
That's a gesture ! And from a lawyer, no less ! --------------- One of this batch has been exchanged for an F84G, and is noe on display in Athens. It was painted all red P
