Description
I think I'm posting this even though I made it quite awhile ago because things have gotten really chaotic around me, this year. This really isn't the place to go into it, but with the economy and everything, I'm getting reminded about how fragile my life, and the lives of the people I care about, really is. There's been some re-adjusting of my priorities, and likely to be more as time passes. Doing the things I've posted here is a big part of my "sanity valve" so I'm not saying goodbye or anything, but for the time being I'm going to be away alot more than I'd prefer.
Which brings me back to this one. I made this thing quite a while ago, and it stayed up long enough for me to shoot a few photos, but fell over the first time the wind blew. A real lesson for me, there. I like how impossible it looks, so I tried to keep that feeling in my photographs.
No glue, strings, or Photoshop tricks were used to make this. I did use Photoshop to take out some power-lines that crossed it an a distracting angle, and the border, and the contrast adjustments. Thanks for taking a look, everyone, and remember to show the ones you love how much you appreciate them, because you never know what might happen, next.

TOO COOL...The POV is Awesome
When life gets you down throw rocks at it until it lets you up again. You have a nice stack to start throwing. Hope everything turns around for you soon. Good Luck.
An excellent "impossible" capture: I love those totally surreal rock things you can come across sometimes when keeping your eyes open, like the rock face I shot in Paris and used in my latest collage .
Another amazing rock pile! Hang in there!
Perfect balance??? How cool would that be to have in our lives?? You did just demonstrate that it's possible. Your words "remember to show the ones you love how much you appreciate them, because you never know what might happen, next." I know this all to well, lost two brothers within a month of each other in two separate incidents. Take nothing for granted, and appreciate what you have now. The only constant we will ever have in life is change!
Very cool hobby! On a vacation to California last year, visiting Saucilito (sic) I watched an older gentleman balancing rocks on the shoreline...was amazed at how he could balance them in a single try. Image and words co-exist very well.
Another amazing balancing act!!!!! wish you lived closer, you'd love the rocks around here!!!!
A perfect reminder of how delicately life is balanced, and how we need to be constantly vigilant to maintain that balance....
Amazing and wonderful capture..
Well chosen photo to illustrate your point of view. Make every minute count. Forget how selfish others really act. No matter how short the time together any combination will work.
Nothing stays the same. A great illustration of that fact.
Excellent sculpture and presentation!!!
Reminds me of my budget--and our economy--of late!!!
These are TRULY magical!!! David
I perfectly understand the parallel between the outcome of the financial crisis in the lives of many people around the planet, and this equilibrium in your stone work composition. The result is here outstanding and gorgeous.
Beautiful photo!
It's a bit more than casually disturbing when one considers that the current financial crisis is a global phenomenon: when America coughs, the rest of the world comes down with a nasty case of the flu! It does show how fragile things are and how easily we've come to elect our inferiors into positions of authority. On a level, your image here does capture that, though it also provides a glimpse into unexpected beauty. Things, when balanced are often amazing, and well...it's because of you that I've made a few tiny attempts at rock balancing myself, though one was more an example of cobblestone balancing. Great work!
Excellent balance!
Jeepers, sorry I missed this one, Michael. It looks impossible that it could remain standing.
A beautiful sculpture and a great shot!
A wonderful capture of this creation. I sounds like it reflects your current situation in life!!!
Cool image and proof you master in the art of patience !! Be sure to implement this skill in your life, especially during these uncertain times, we all need some. Excellent work
These are awesome!I've seen some amazing rock carons on trails in the high country, but NOTHING like this!!!

Pretty amazing rock stacking!
