Description
I'd like to dedicate this to another fan of the rocks of our earth: Gaiadriel
I know you love to see these crazy stacks, so here's a new one for you!
(See her wonderful gallery here:

I took a break from my other projects (and between the rain-squalls that seem to keep passing through) to do this. It's actually part of several stacks, but I'm sorting my pictures still, so this'll have to do for now. This is two shots of the same pair of stacks, from opposite sides. I loved how improbable it all looked.
I should mention that there's no glue, strings, or even "photoshopping" involved in making these stacks, just gravity and friction.
Have a great weekend!

I believe it can be done...saw it done first hand at Saucilito(sic) Island in California. very Cool!
CLEVER use of different angles!!! David
Excellent studies of centre of mass. These are great!
Definitely one of my favorites (of your rock piles).
excellent
An excellent idea. Very nicely done.
Fascinating imagery!
These are so cool. You must be very patient and have a steady hand. Are you familiar with the artist, Andy Goldsworthy? There is an excellent film called, Rivers and Tides which shows him at work stacking stones and ice that I think you would enjoy.
Great idea! Nice one!
(((Michael))) THUD! Alright, it's official...I'm a total heel! Here I am, meandering through your images, some newer ones, some older...and I JUST now find THIS! O.m.g...I'm so incredibly sorry, Michael, to have missed this somehow, until now, greater than a full YEAR later! I have no explanation to offer. All I can try for in a miserably meager self-defense, is that this particular period was a very rough one health wise for me, and perhaps this beyond beautiful dedi stealthed my radar because of it. I honestly can't say. This is utterly embarrassing, to say the very least, my sweet friend. And you have a heart FULL of apologies, literally a thousand fold. I ADORE this, of course! And it brings such intense warmth. I smile at both the stacks, especially for your thoughtfulness, and even the title. For, I know you and I have some twinning going on as well, in some ways, living somewhat parallel universes. So, the formations and duality..perfect! I particularly love the concave/convex aspects, and the contrasting darker rock against the others. There's a very grounded element to this. In short, I adore everything about this gift! Now, let me blow your mind a bit, because this immediately struck me. Note there is a foundation stone in each. Atop each, 4 stones. Are you sitting? My birthday=4/4! Again, sincerest, sincerest apologies, for the awful lapse between the giving and the longgggg overdue receipt. I've tried here, but know I'll never explain how much I regret that, Michael. Thank you! But, thank you more, for our paths crossing. For, as lovely as this is, you're an ever better gift. :)
