Description
This was the Castle of the O'Roukes, and in Irish History proved to have a major impact all over the love of a woman.. This is an alternative view of the castle I have posted before. One of my favourites among the many in Ireland this one is now restored to something of it's former glory.
In the mid 1100's a great rivalry started between Tiernan O'Rourke, King of Breifne, and Dermot MacMurrough Kavanagh, King of Leinster. Legend has it that Devorgilla (wife of O'Rourke) began an affair with Dermot on the shores of Lough Gill that was to last 2 years. In 1166 O'Connor (the high king), O'Rourke, and the Ostmen of Dublin banded together and deposed Dermot from his lands. Dermot fled to Wales and returned with the English Strongbow and his forces in order to regain his lands with the promise of his daughter as a bride. Thus began the invasion of Ireland by the English. When Dermot died 1171, Strongbow took over the kingship of Leinster.
Thanks for taking time to view and for any comments you care to make.. Just back from a few days in Europe so will catch up with you guys later.

I've been absent for illness, etc, and am only starting to comment now...it'll be sporadic for another few months still, but at least I can come back and comment on some representative images I've missed. Still, I've seen everything since leaving (even though I didn't comment) and this one was one of the first, and I love it. Your landscapes are always lush—one takes that for granted after a while—but they each have different angles, palettes, etc. This one has a glorious lighting from the right, and the lush greens are awash in an almost French Impressionistic yellow, helped along by the ambers of the greenery close to the water. A lovely shot, pulsing & lush, with the castle almost growing out of the mix; and that compacted feeling of Irish greenery as it moves into the distance. Lovely, a great place to return to your gallery, and as always, your notes are interesting and entertaining.
