Description
A co-worker gave me a couple of arms of this cactus and I put them into the ground, one in the front yard, one in the back. They are not on my irrigation system. So the only water they get is when it rains, which means not very often. Sometimes they always look like they had it, and sometimes I have to take a few arms off and throw away. In the six years I had them they only bloomed twice, and only for 24 hours. This picture was taken on 7 May 2006, the last time they bloomed. I saw it in the morning, went back inside to get my camera, took a picture. The next day they were gone.
Thank you for viewing and commenting on my uploads and a special 'Thank you' to those that may have added some of them to their favs,

ja, es ist wirklich schade, dass die Kaktusblüten nicht lange halten! Wunderschönes Foto! Die Blüten sind fantastisch....
Realmente uma captura magnifica meu amigo, excelente, aplausos (5)
Fabulous capture, Sig! :)
fabulous
Wow, only bloomed twice. What great timing to capture these beautiful blossoms then. I had a cactus for several years. Nothing. Guess I should have waited longer. Unfortunately, it died on me. Guess not enough water. Aloha Nice capture.
Excellent. Nice and detailed!
Beautiful capture!
Well, it certainly put out its best blooms for you! Lovely shot, with brilliant red color, and detail! Glad you were home that one day!
Nice catch and by the next time they bloom we could both be quite old!
wow rare flowers for sure in my book. cool looking photo
What a lovely sight! And those flowers have the most interesting little "arm" coming up out of them, is that to beckon the bees and butterflies? Great capture!
superb image!

Gorgeous flowers and how fortunate you were to catch them when they bloomed!!
really beautiful and great photo sig..
Wonderful Sig. Thought you were going to say you went inside to get your camera and the blooms were already gone when you got back :-)
I have a similar stalk of column cactus here and although it is now towering over the other cactus, it has not bloomed. These are gorgeous flowers. Wonderful capture.
Gorgeous capture.. a shame they bloom so seldom.
i think ute my wife had similar ones(i am not good in identifying- plants,i mean i call a tree a tree and a cactus a cactus-lol i love them but ute has the green thumb)so they boomed as well only for 24 hours in our garden in span. we had to give up,100m2 for me was too much work, thats why we goy us this penthouse now,we have still plants on the terrace but far less of course.. marvellous shot brother.
Magnifique photo!
Stunning capture my friend.
