Description
I went to the hardware store the other day and they have a garden shop. These poppies just jumped out at me and put themselves into my hands. How could I not bring them home???

You are so fortunate, here in the UK we would not be allowed to go to a garden store, any store in fact and start snapping away, we'd have security all over us in a trice?...nice shot, great colours and I agree with Andrea, great crop. Just as a side note, I spent four years as a Mall security guard, and the largest part of the daily duties were stopping people with cameras, go figure that I turned into a Photographer..LOL!
Poppies are like that, they love to migrate home with people. I've brought my share of them home too. These are Iceland poppies, right? Really great shot!

Nice shot, Marilyn. I get the same feeling when I go the store and see DVD movies, No.2 pencils and screwdrivers on the racks and shelves.
It just amazes me how many of you photographers know flowers so well. Everyone has experiences with them, and knows the species the minute they see them. I know poppies from 2 places: The politics of poppies, because of the Asian drug trade (I know people who've worked to control it from getting in the hands of children, etc), and from Georgia O'Keeffe, whose poppy-paintings shout across continents. I agree with several here that your crop is wonderful: You cropped the top & bottom flowers in the middle of their petals, giving us a sense of horizontal movement and making the flowers seem all the more dramatic. Fine instinct, & outside the box once more. And the branch that travels between the two is a really nice accent; it's like a lifeline. (you've probably seen this, but here's an average jpg of one of O'Keeffe's cosmic poppies: here. She too saw the blast of color & form present inside the 'simple flower'...)
Look at that crop, and the great proportions!!! Whew! Awesome stuff. You heard every word I said, and then did something totally your own style with the information. Fabulous! !!!!! This kicks butt in a uniquely Marilyn way. YOu rock! :D
