Dans un site sauvage et montagneux, Wotan ordonne à sa Walkyrie préférée, Brünnhilde (douée d'une force démesurée par le port d'une ceinture magique) de seller son cheval, pour voler au secours de Siegmund dans sa lutte contre Hunding. En poussant des cris de joie, elle part exécuter l'ordre. De loin, elle avertit Wotan que Fricka approche sur son char attelé de deux béliers ; sa façon brutale de fouetter ses coursiers montre combien est grande la colère de la déesse protectrice du mariage. Arrivée devant Wotan, elle exige une punition contre ceux qui ont commis l’adultère et l’inceste. Elle sait que Wotan, déguisé en simple mortel, a engendré les deux amoureux. Wotan essaye d'expliquer à Fricka qu'il faut au salut des dieux un héros qui soit indépendant. Fricka le prend alors au mot et exige que Wotan n’intervienne pas. Il en fait le serment et change ses ordres.((La Walkyrie Acte II Wagner)
In a wild and hilly site, Wotan orders in its favourite Walkyrie, Brünnhilde (gifted with an immoderate force by the harbour of a magical belt) to saddle his horse, to fly to the aid of Siegmund in the struggle against Hunding. By screaming of joy, she leaves to carry order out. From a distance, she informs Wotan that Fricka approaches on its tank harnessed of two rams; the violent way it whips his messengers shows how much is big the anger of the protective goddess of marriage. Arrived in front of Wotan, she demands a punishment against those who made the adultery and the incest. She knows that Wotan, dressed up as simple lethal, procreated both lovers. Wotan tries to explain to Fricka that one needs for the greeting of the Gods a hero who is independent. Fricka takes him at the word then and demands that Wotan does not intervene. He makes oath and changes his orders.
