Description
As we were leaving the Port of Miami, Fisher Island, directly south of South Beach, my post 'Miami Beach', was gliding past. This looked like a really nice place. Palm trees, golf courses, and seclusivity. I think all it takes to live there is money, but it comes probably as close to tropical paradise as one can come in the Continental United States.
This picture was taken on 24 January 2009.

MARVELOUS PHOTOGRAPH. fisher island is a spoil island. until 20 years ago it was used as a fuel storage area for belcher oil company. then it was developed by a group led by jed bush (before he was governor) into the paradise you see. totally artificial. beyond expensive.

This island looks beautiful and exclusive, but after Tim (timtrip) mentioned that up until 20 years ago it had been a fuel oil storage site I wonder if there is any groundwater pollution. Also, if there is groundwater if there is saltwater intrusion. But I suppose if one can afford a home there, these issues are small potatoes.
