Description

This is a great reason to live in this state! Even though it has been one of the coldest Januarys on record we still manage to find reasons to love it here! What a gorgeous day it was, too. Matthew is at the top of our hill, resting. (Climbing that hill is plenty of exercise, trust me.) The ride down is worth the huffing and puffing, though. One year the sleet made it so slippery we slid all the way to the ponds. For once, there are no home made moguls on this hill as none of us enjoyed the bruising they caused. I must mention that back when we owned horses there were often some little frozen surprise packages that made for a rather bumpy ride down. *grin* (When we marched in parades my band director Dad called them road apples.) Ok... enough said. HA. Have a great weekend! Jodie Please visit my personal website...

Great shot...I miss the snow when I see a picture like this. It's sunny and 68 degrees here.

I had forgotten about "road apples." You learn about them after you band marches behind the cowboys in a parade :o) Nice picture that captures that magic time of youth when a hillside becomes a mountain of adventure to go hurtling down at breakneck speed. Thanks for sharing another nice (and artfully taken) photo.

Superlative effects in this capture of your son taking a short break atop the glorious snow, Jodie. How about constructing a little tram going back and forth up and down the hill to expedite Matthew's fun and games without leaving him out of breath?

LOL Road apples ... I love it. Bud always loved them as a pup; he called them poopcycles. :) It was spring like today wasn't it ??? My kids actually went outside today and made me a snowman. (if you want a picture of their snowman, you will have to email me :-| ) lol This is a sweet shot Jodie, your hill there looks like a lot of fun!!!

A sweet shot, and this young tyke certainly does seem to be bundled up well against the cold! Memories of childhood, but I'm glad we don't get that much snow in Texas!

LOL @ "road apples" What a fun thing if you don't mind your butt frozen to the hilt. Pleasant point of view to illustrate the slide. Half of us Africans would die in weather like this.

beautiful blue shadows & tones across the snow; the horizontal shadows blend so nicely with the pov of the shot (the line of the fence & sky behind it); the tree is a very nice canopy, and I love how the sky looms behind it all in that winter stark-blue that is so pure this time of year. And Matthew, looking like he's posing but waiting to get back to the slide, is in a nice & patient pose (like, ok, he'll give you the shot but wants to get back to the slide). "Road apples" is common in these here parts (I may be a city boy but I'm still a midwesterner!) and I could give you other names, but won't for the sake of censorship. A very nice shot, and always nice to see your family enjoying the life around them...
