The End
For so long
I wanted to say
The words that
Would change it all
Today I said them
And once they were gone
I shook like a leaf
And fell apart
Was it the right thing
Were they the right words
How will it change my life
What do I do now
But words came back
In a most unexpected way
That surprised me
Released me freed me
It’s sad to think
It’s really and truly over
But really and truly
It’s been over for a very long time
At this very moment
I’m raw fragile
Bruised battered
Emotionally spent
Every little thing
Sets me off
Into a new round
Of tears and sorrow
But mostly it sets me free
There are a few more
Things I need to say
But it’ll be easier
This next time
Time will heal
This wound
And I’ll go on
Alone, but happy
I just have to stop crying

I wrote this a little over a month ago. It was a hard time, but things are far better now--in fact, my life is good. Time does make a difference.

Sounds like a big weight has been set aside. Very nicely expressed. Recovery lies ahead. For the time being, you are free to sing the blues...for now you feel the words of all those old songs. Hugs, Bill
Endings always contain an element of loss, no matter how necessary the decision. Even an ending you've been looking forward to can be a letdown, a place to stop and grieve. Well written.
This superb and expresses so well something I have been through too. I suppose that these recognitions are part of the appeal of poetry.
My Dad once said grief is a place to bide while we find the words to begin writing the next chapter. Well written as it touches something in each of us. Loss is universal so we can all recognize this place.

Life is what you make it and its always better to clear out the dead wood before it gets you down ,which is what you`ve done .Its always a hard decision but I think in the long run its always the right one .Very strong writing Marilyn .Take care my friend :o) Mick
yes, very well written, and as you always do with words, you expressed it all in short heart-ful expressions, little jewels of feeling...I'm glad things feel better now, I know how pain is a guest who doesn't leave when you ask it to (ie, it stays for months). I wish you strength for those moments it returns, and if you can write it the way you do here, it won't have nearly the power on you that it could otherwise. Very sensitively written, with some real music too. And the visual: It's filled with light. Much peace your way!
