Description

Oops, who left the window open? Hello everyone, and thank you for all your comments and favorites on my last post, 'Exorcising the Demon'. I put a lot of time and effort into it, and I'm happy so many of you seem to like it. Todays picture is much simpler by comparison, but another experiment in learning Poser's depth of field function. I'm still having issues with the more distant features looking grainy, and am having to use Photoshop to blur out the pixelated parts. If anyone has any suggestions on how to setup Poser 7 to optimize its depth of field renders, I'd be much obliged. As always, I'm looking forward to your comments. Have a great weekend, Tom Seaview123 PS -- This image is a repost. After reading 'agdink's comment, I took the advise and re-rendered with the suggested settings. The image didn't need any retouching in Photoshop. Although it took about 2 hours to render, it really made a difference. Thanks for the great suggestion!

Excellent setting, lighting and perspective Tom. I wish I could answer your question, but honestly, I have no idea what causes the pixelation in Poser 7 (I never got past P6 and I'm not using it all that much, because I'm more used and comfortable with D/S).

Great scene! Where's that can of Dragon-B-Gon when you need it. As for DOF - I have absolutely no idea I don't understand it, YET!

Great looking image! The trick to smooth DoF in Poser 7 is in the number of "Pixel Samples". By default Poser sets that up with 3. If you want smooth DoF, then you need to crank it up to 15-20 (at least). It adds some time to your render, but you don't get the choppy/grainy feel to your elements in the background. Of course, you can also use something like GlowWorm from Daz or Advanced Render Settings from RunTimeDNA to render a separate DoF pass which will let you blur out the DoF in Photoshop. I've tried both and actually prefer Poser's version, but when I'm feeling impatient, GlowWorm saves a boodle of time and gives more control than Poser or Advanced Render Settings since you can set the start and end points of your focal range. Have fun!
