Description
This isolated thunderstorm occured during the monsoon in Arizona. The slight annual shift to the north of the ITC (Intertropical Convergence Zone) results in the inflow of moist tropical air from the Gulf of Mexico and the Sea of Cortez into the American Southwest, primarily Arizona, New Mexico and Western Texas. This moist air is lifted by convection, resulting in numerous isolated thunderstorms like this one during our monsoon from about July through September. These thunderstorms may drop an inch of rain or more in a short period of time causing normally dry washes to run for short periods of time.
This picture was taken in Southeastern Arizona in July 1986 and later scanned.
Thanks to Shari (tiziezzme) for post-processing this image for me!
Thank you for viewing and commenting. I will hopefully comment tomorrow again. Getting ready for a short trip,

spectacular capture, Sig! :)
I took the picture, but Shari (tiziezzme) should get ALL the credit for making it look the way it does!!! She offered to tell me how to do it, but I am either too old (excuse), too dumb, too lazy, or whatever. It is probably whatever. After the response to this upload maybe I should make an effort to learn how to post-process my old pictures myself.
What a great photo. Extraordinary for sure.
Looks like Joint Task force 1 at Eniwietok! One big updraft.
an amazing shot.
Wonderful Work!!!
I am from AZ and remember the monsoon season. I always loved it. You could feel it in the air. It can cause quite a bit of flooding. I once drove through a puddle in the street and found out it was a very deep puddle.
Excellent capture! Great sky and lighting.

You say on your homepage that you are not an artist. This picture looks pretty artistic to me. Very dramatic and stunning colors. I know Shari worked on it for you but she had to have something to work with.
