Description

Hanging On Something happened Words were said Actions taken Things didn't work out The way you planned You cannot change What happened How things are Who she is You can only change You What are you Hanging on to? Do you need to be Right? Safe? Do you need to feel Understood? (Don't start with me On the whole "I just want you to Understand me" thing I can translate ... It means, "If you only understood, You would agree with me And we could move on, Both of us knowing I'm right.") Forgiveness Is not a team sport Consensus activity Joint venture Collaborative effort It does not require Permission It's what you do When you know What you can live with And what you can't It's what happens When you're ready to Move forward At wit's end Turning it over to Your Higher Power God The Universe Do you say a prayer? "Open her heart To understanding Reconciliation Forgiveness." If your Higher Power Knows best Why are you telling Him/Her/Them What result you want? That isn't letting go It's just control Gone underground Truly turning it over Means You have to Let loose Of the Other End .......... During a conversation with a friend recently we got on the topic of misunderstanding and forgiveness. It was one of those conversations where we were agreeing with each other loudly and passionately! Our discussion stayed with me for the rest of the day. Sometimes when that happens, a poem is the only way out. .......... Title page created in ArtRage and Photoshop.

I don't know what your occupation is but you would make a great counselor or mediator. These are powerful, insightful, words.

Relationships all boil down to communication, and if we can't learn how, we repeat the same situations over & over again until we get it right... Excellent words here!!!

so right on for this time of year also. Know many of those conversations; one that sticks with me is last one had with my mother (died from cancer many years ago) but still haunts me to this very typing. She couldn't talk at that late stage but her eyes said more than she ever would have expressed in word. Hence, the unfinished business between us. Thank you dear for this poem; very powerful for me in other ways. Especially where why would we try to explain to our maker how we want life to turn out. Happy New Year to you dear soul of light!

Readin my mind again, huh? These are great words, especially the first part. These words speak to me, remind me of how impossible it is to "make" anyone understand, most of all, how to just let it go and live. Thanks for reminding me~~~~again.

Hanging on, coming in on a wing and a prayer, sputter sputter. Profound prose, indeed, and well thought out, but as for me, it may sound a bit trite, I like to use the simple phrase, "she just doesn't/didn't understand me."

Bravo, an excellent example of confusion from all perceptions… Humans never cease to amaze me how complex we all are, and how complicated we tend to make every thing. "Laughs!"

Made me think about me and my wifes several disagreements! I guess if the shoe fits I might as well put it on! I will try to keep this in mind the next time!

Now, all things considered, this makes all the more sense to me and now I am comfortable commenting:) First the style of the way you've placed your words on the "paper" is even neat. I like the way you've tapered your last seven lines...the visual impact is there...reaching the thining end of a string...one has to let go...or get worn out hanging on to the tip. Was this intentional or intuitive? If I were authoring this piece, which I am not, I would rearrange these words: "Open her heart To understanding Reconciliation Forgiveness." to: "Open her heart Through forgiveness To understanding And reconciliation." Don't think you'll agree with that just yet though. But it one of those things to talk about isn't it? You've really got a knack for saying a lot in a small space. That's one of the main things I like about your style. WooHoo :-)

Wonderful poem that speaks volumes to me right now. Sometimes you try hard to understand something or someone and have to decide in the end that it's not going to happen. Well I had reached that conclusion but it didn't stop me from waffling and wondering. When I find myself reaching for that other end, I'll read your poem again. Thanks. (I like Bill's comment about the last seven lines. How astute of him.)
