Description
About a month ago I posted a photograph of satsumas in a pottery bowl entitled Satsuma Season This morning I was looking for an image to use as a reference for a painting, and that one caught my eye.
I used the photograph to trace the outline of the oranges and the edge of the bowl, but other than that, this is a straight painting.
Created in ArtRage with a little bit of Irfanview.
Edit note: For those of you who want to know how this works ... ArtRage is a painting program. It works just like painting on canvas, except it's all digital. (For my photog friends ... this is not a filter program!) You can download a free version here if you're interested in playing around with it. As with any painting program, it helps if you have a tablet! It doesn't have to be fancy - I've got a little WACOM - just something with a mouse pen.

Great painting! I must ask you sometime about how this works, I'm intrigued!
These really do look delicious, beautifully painted.
I'm with denise...don't know how this is done but the end result is very good. Bill
Beautiful painting work, sober and colorful.
Sweet! It looks great! Been on that site, but there's no free edition... only "free" for 25 bux...
did super good. I used artrage a few times and I like it. Merry Christmas
Very nice painting
Oh, this is just wonderful~~I am SO gonna have to learn this new artform
nice
very nice work!!!!!
Superb! My Dabbler prog wouldn't work on the new PC, but we got the tablet going(after 2 hours of fiddling). I tried Artrage, thanks to your kind advice, but for some reason I didn't get on with the workspace. BUT Corel Painter 9 is so heavily discounted because of Corel Painter 10 that I bought it!! WOW! Now I just need the time to explore.
A really lovely painting, Tara and I am so delighted to see, that you are doing such beautiful things. :))))))))
so much sweeet,fantastic
Awesome work on this!
I've used artrage, and it's genuinely intuitive and painterly. Your treatment of the fruit is soft & sensuous, and the whole work flows with a kind of fur-like diagonal, like it's washed over in a plush flow; and you've highlighted the oranges with really subtle oil-like impasto and very nice shadow and outlining too. Subtle and yet very present. I agree with the above, it's so nice to see this. Hope your holiday was sweet.
SKILLS!!!!!, Nice one auntie, I had a tablet back a few ago, It had a wireless pen and the tablet was great, and do you know for the life of me, I can't get a bettery for the pen anywhere now, so it's lying dormant in the drawer, and I miss it too :)...I must get that sorted out, you jogged my memory :)
You did good :o)
nice work
OHH WAOW!!!! I love this.
stunning stillife!
Fine bit of postwork painting in this shot. I may fool around with ArtRage, but a physical disability precludes me from using a WACOM tablet.
excellent work
Very well done Tara...
Ohhhh you are multi talented!!
Chaleur et gourmandise !
