Description
Captured 3/8/07 during my 3-mile round-trip along the 300-acres of restored wetlands, located just north of Huntington Beach proper, photographing anything and everything in sight.
The reserve supports waterfowl such as avocets, egrets, plovers, and the endangered least terns, whatever that particular species is.
As I progressed further into the lonely reserve (like not another soul in sight...I should have this luck during auto shows), I strayed carefully off the beaten path for these shots of what the wetlands were named for. Looks like the aftermath of a powerful hurricane, and not exactly a spot for a picnic. Several dead trees dotted the landscape, plus there was no wildlife apparent in this particular area. Jocko500 should really like this; Carin, with her affinity for dead trees, maybe.
Thankx for coming by, and have a magnificent Monday.

This place looks realy isolated and dead. Hope one day will life return.
Wow, it's really gotten back to nature here! Great shots!
LOL at your your comment about you should have this luck at auto shows. Looks like an interesting place to explore.
Love the snags ... they make dramatic perches for whatever birds might wish to stop a while!
Interesting place and capture. Aloha

fantastic swampy looking place....great stuff ...and Merry Christmas to you and yours!! :-)
My sort of place!!
Oh Harry... what a stunning collage of images and what a wonderful vista. You are right - before I even read the narrative I just loved those dead trees - each telling its own story... Wonderful photography my friend... and thank you for veering off the beaten path!!! LOL... :)
amazing shots of the poetry of barren trees and dead growth; and of the marsh-like water and tufts of grass, etc. Your eye has caught not only vastness, but the eerie intimacy of the pockets, swamps and marshes that wetlands afford. I don't know how you got this close: It looks like you're practically walking in the water! Or, if you're on land, like you could fall through at any step. I just love the formations you caught: I.e., your eye for variety, for the long sweep, the 'tufts' in # 2 and 3, the poetry of those lone trunks (esp in #4), and the beautiful 'opera' of the many trunks in #5. Plus the different colorations. It's just amazing what wetlands give us. And with shots like #4, one would never know you were within a state of a major city. Stunning and bleakly beautiful---how did I miss these? Maybe I hadn't found your gallery yet. More amazing shots from this stunning, unforgiving place...
