Description
This view is from Puu Ulaula Overlook of the caldera of Haleakala Volcano (10,023-ft) on Maui, Hawaii. The volcano is considered to be active. It was assumed to have erupted as recently as 1790, but newly obtained radiocarbon dating suggests the most recent eruption to have occurred sometime between 1480 to 1600 A.D.
From this point on this clear morning we could see Mauna Kea (13,796-ft.) and Mauna Loa (13,677-ft.) on the Big Island about 90 miles distance to the Southeast.
This picture was taken in May 1986 and later scanned.

Fantastic picture, love the different almost unearthy tones.
Amazing that such a desolate scene could be in Hawaii-great shot!!
First of all, thank you for the dedication. This is a very dramatic shot of one of our famous volcano. They are beautiful yet very dangerous. You never really know, for sure, when they may erupt. This is a very dramatic shot. I am sorry to say that I have never been to this volcano. But, have flown over it many times. Nicely done. Aloha Sig. Well done.

Great shot Sig. Looks like some of the terrain in the mountains of the Mojave Desert in Southern California. Well done and like your notes. Bill
It´s a powerful landscape! nice
I can remember seeing this from a distance of course when I visited Maui, such a beautiful place, I sure hope to return one day.
You have really shown this for what it is ... not the most friendly, but one of the most interesting places to be. Extraordinary view.
Fascinating place !
Magnific scene of Hawaii! So interesting shot Sig :)
Oh fantastic colors and view Sig!
awesome work warm hug, Linda
I would have come away with a pocket full of stones as well as this excellent photograph Sig. My daughter always brings back a stone or pebble from where ever she goes on holidays or just trips. She has done this from being about three years old and still carries on the tradition. I would like some volcanic rock for polishing, who knows I might get something like Tara has uploaded. A nice glassy finish. Excellent capture and narrative, always a pleasure Sig. Bravo!!!!!
Magnificent render and work my friend!!! XCellent!!!
