This image takes a little explaining. Cloudy night last night when the moon was not only full, but at its' fullest for all of 2008.
This photo being taken one day after the full moon, we can already see the shadow of a waning moon on the lower right quadrant.
This is the first time I've ever shot in camera RAW...subsequently doing all adjustments in RAW and saved in .jpeg. Works great as everybody knows that has done it.
Finally, no, the moon didn't appear blue...I simply used "cyanotype" as a Hue and Saturation adjustment because I like the way it looks for this posting versus white, gray or a warm shade of light brown.
Hope you enjoy looking at all these craters. A full moon always draws me out :-)
Really appreciate all your comments and favs.
Great Sunday to you all,
Bill

love the moon always have as a kid i once saw it rizing soooooo large soooo enourmous that i ran home to warm my mother.. when we went to the room to look through the window it had schrunk to it's normal size again.. I know know that it sometimes looks larger ... but as a 10 year old it shocked me .. and got me hooked ... i am a moon lover THE event of my life was 1999... the total eclips in France.. I filmed it.. it was wonderful
"but at its' fullest for all of 2008." ........ AND, closest to the Earth too! GREAT shot Bill, you made my mouth drop!!! What cam/lens did you use to get this awesome shot?? its absolutely GORGEOUS & sooo GOOD!!!
Great shot Starman. Once was a song, "Blue Moon" -- Though your scientific photographic image you have brought that thought to light and proved it is not made of Green Cheese. Thanks. Have a good one. Skipper
Really excellent shot Bill! I really like the blue hue. I'm a lunatic also!
WOW.. such detail. Excellent shot and postwork.
awesome shot Bill! The clarity is amazing:)
WOW amazing. I am the same if there is a full moon I want to be out side to see it, somewhat bundled up in this cold though, outstanding photography~~ now I am going to check out your camera haha maybe ask santa for one similar ...
Superb image!
Bill, this is a fantastic shot!
Excellent Image. I see you used a fast shutter speed and ISO 200: were those "automatic?" I'm still trying to learn more of ISO settings, but wouldn't a slower shutter and ISO 100 given even more detail? Cold here in Oklahoma, but this close December moon would have been keen to stare at while flat on your back in an open field.
Impressive work and detail. Most excellent. Aloha
It was also the closest and biggest it will be for a long, long time.
Wowwwwww ... gorgeous!! It looks perfect in blue. I am totally impressed.
Spot on with this one mate!
Very marvelous shot!
Excellent shot! Well done again
Fantastic Shot!!
Gorgeous capture!!
Great shot and I like the blue hue. Makes the details stand out.
This is the kind of moon that brings out werewolves and vampires. Splendid clarity in this capture of the crater-filled moonscape, Bill, and I also like the blue hue. You must have used one of your high-powered lenses and mounted the camera on a tripod for this exquisite shot.
The first word that comes to mind when I seen this image is WOW!!!I agree it made my mouth drop..What an amazing image, you did a stunning job..I have been trying to capture the moon as you have and I have had no such luck..Well done..definately 5+...Jen
You worked that camera like a sheepdog works the flock. Excellent!
Truly stella stuff Bill. Great shot and choice of colouration.
Breathtaking shot Bill. This really has to be viewed full size.
You've done really well, my friend. RAW is still a mystery to me. But whatever works is fine. It certainly brought out the details. We are STILL clouded and rained in here! Nothing changes. Hope its a better year next one!!! Rob.
Excellent shot, Bill! Awesome view! P.S. You're welcome! ;)
Wow! Wonderful detail here, Bill! Great shot on the RAW image and I like the 'blue moon'. Very well done, congrats!
Great shot Bill!!!
Reminds me of the 60's song "Blue Moon"...memories..:)
Great shot Bill and great information. It is on my 'to do' list. Last winter when I was in O-gau I went several times to Reutte (Austria) to get cheaper gas. Driving from the turn-off Oberammergau-Ettal toward Graswang and Linderhof there was a lot of cross-country sking. BTW, I posted a picture of Kloster Ettal about a year ago that was taken in Dec 2005. A German Add Agency contacted me and wanted to know if they could use the picture in their catalogue. It will be featured in their Travel Catalogue for ADAC of Southern Bavaria. My cousin Gundi sings in the choir in Ettal and I went there for the midnight mess in 2005/2006 and almost froze to death. No heating in that place. The monks brew their own beer and I got some 'Ettaler Heidelbeer Liqeur', also made by the monks. Great business men those monk, Sig...
