Description
This observation point for Glacier Perito Moreno is located at latitude S 50 deg 28 min 11 sec, and longitude W 73 deg 02 min 08 sec in Santa Cruz Province, Patagonia, Argentina. The glacier is part of a much larger icefield, actually the largest collection of glaciers and icefields outside the polar regions. There are larger glaciers which are not easily accessible. It was very windy that day and the low clouds changed constantly. The snowline wasn't much higher than my position and the wind pushed the rain under my windbreaker. Yet there were some flowers right next to the walkways. After all, it was just about the beginning of summer down there. And standing there and watching this icefield, there were constant loud cracks and other noises the moving ice was making.
This picture was taken on 19 December 2003.

I posted another upload of this glacier on October 4, 2007. There I explained what makes this particular glacier one of the very few that is actually NOT shrinking.

Sig, this is an astonishing shot. It really pulls at the eyes! I have been inspecting every inch of this and no inch is less fascinating then the next. Really outstanding and how exciting to have been there and seen this wonder!
When I was a child Sig, my mother used to use 'Dolly Blue' I think thats where the term Dolly Tub came from, this dolly blue was used to make your whites look white, during washing them a small amount was added to the water. She used it in iceing sugar as well, it was called Royal Icing then, just a dab made it look just like this glacier with a blue tinge. Maybe not quite as deep as this looks though. More on Dolly Blue can be found here, I'm sure some of the older RR members will remember it. http://www.oldandinteresting.com/laundry-blue.aspx Excellent capture Sig, and an interesting narrative as well. Bravo!!!!!
