Description
Genre: Post-Apocalyptic
Hero: Max, Sam...something simple, if he even has a name...which is not always the case.
Likes: Cars, dogs, gasoline, dirty wasteland children
Dislikes: Bikers, civilization, radiation, mutations and anyone wearing a mohawk.
Post-Apocalyptic sci-fi tended to have two primary purposes. First was to warn us all of the dangers of nuclear war. They did this by portraying the entire world as an endless desert full of scroungy humans fighting over water and gasoline...so apparently if there's a nuclear war the entire planet will become the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Scary stuff.
The second purpose seemed to be, as near as I can tell, to revive the sport of Demolition Derby. All these movies ended in a smash-em-up car battle under highly contrived circumstances.
We backed away from nuclear war, but we never did bring back demolition derbies...one out of two ain't bad.
