Description
We met with Abdu, the brother of Sidi, during our Senegal travel in 2007. It is well known that some traditions in Islam make people consider that any kind of image (hence photography) must be condemned, and this concerns especially images of animals and men. All the family we met there is Muslim. But the friendship between our friend Serge and the family of Abdu made all this photographic sequence possible. Nous avons rencontré Abdu, frère de Sidi, lors de notre voyage au Sénégal en 2007. On sait que certaines traditions de l’Islam (toute cette famille est musulmane) laissent supposer que toutes formes d’images (et donc la photographie) sont condamnables, notamment pour les êtres animés. C’est l’amitié vécue entre notre ami Serge et la famille d’Abdu qui m’a permis de faire toute cette série d’images. La photo “An afternoon of happiness” (une après-midi de bonheur, lien ci-dessous) vous indique comment nous avons connu Abdu et sa famille. Cliquez sur l’image pour mieux en voir les détails. Techdata: Nikon D50 with AF-Nikkor 3.5-4.5/18-70 ED at F=62mm, DX format (equiv. 24x36 format 93mm), 1/500s at f/4.5, 200 ISO. Postwork in Photoshop CS3 Extended. Cropping of half of the whole surface. The top of the hat, which was outside the image, was reconstructed with the Clone Stamp tool.
