Description
letting go
i've been carrying you
all my life
it's time to put you down
let you go
way past time -
you've been dead
and buried in the ground
for thirty-seven years
when i was little
not even five years old
i thought i had to
take care of you
i thought it was my job
to keep you happy
terrified at the thought
that you might be sad
how is it
that i formed the idea
that you were my cross
at such an age?
before i could read
before i went to school
when i was still learning
to color inside the lines
i've learned over the years
not to carry others
to let my loved ones
live their own lives
even though i'm afraid
if i walk away
i will have
nothing left
you are my last burden
and it's time
to let you go
..........

This is so powerful. I've been learning in the last few weeks to let go of my burden and I'm sure you would agree that it isn't easy, but it is good for reducing the stress level. And I'm not saying I've completely learned the lesson, but I've made great progress. Thank you for these words.
We've all got crossed to bear. Some real and sometimes just left over from times before. It's always "good" to realize/understand/know when to let go. But no one can tell you that until you're ready to hear it. Thank you for this...definitely something to think about.
Beautiful Poem and one which I can strongly relate to (as many others here do I imagine) Thank You for sharing this Tara. Hugs
Completely powerful and understandable words!!!
Oh, this just has so many things I feel. I know where this comes from, but I also understand it on a very personal, powerful level. Big, huge, poignant, sad, wonderful words and I love them.
nice work...
SUPERB! Thankyou, Tara!
Really nice work here...
A very beautiful and touching Poem, Tara.
What was I just saying about your writing prowess, and lo and behold, you posted a poem and something I bet we all can relate to...stirring and well written Tara !
Thought provoking stuff my dear.
A lesson some people never learn Tara, for some the right time never comes, and when it does it is still a difficult choice. I agree wholeheartedly with Ronnie, very thought provoking prose indeed. It took my four years to let go of seventeen years of my life, and when I did, I started twenty odd years of joy. It's just accepting the time is right. I think this is one of your best to date. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!
Wow! That was beutiful. :)
fantastic
beautiful work, Tara warm hug and love, Linda Kaye
Poignant words, but in reference to what?
Wow, powerful, excellent work!!!!!!!!!
A lovely poem and something we all have to learn to do. Not easy being a mother.
Letting go is the hardest thing to do.
Beautiful work! I would love to be easy to let go! :)
WOW! How simple yet profound...letting go is such a hard thing to do in so many situations. It's been something that's occupied my mind for more decades than I care to even think about...strangely enough, not as one who should let go, but one who should be let go OF...WOW. This piece of poetic truth resonates profoundly with me in ways that are hard (even for me) to imagine, simply because in my need to be let go of...I crossed over to the other side of the planet, only to lose most of my possessions, most of the things that brought comfort to me, my cat, and everything familiar. Of course, a certain country has come to replace all of that, and even though it's direly important that I return to the USA for a time, I know that I've let go of some things and as a result, I've gained other things, including a gallery here on Renderosity. The thing is, I can let go of this place as well...the place (and people) I've come to love so incredibly that sometimes it hurts. The thing is, I can let go of them--yeah, even a certain loopy friend who speaks English like a cross between Star Trek's Mister Chekov, and a James Bond bad guy--because of the paradox of letting go. Once you release something or someone, you give them the choice to return to you, and if they don't...then for as much as it might hurt, you get over it. THAT is a lesson that too much of the world needs to learn, and you've hit that nail so squarely on the head that I stand in awe. WELL DONE!
marvelous
Its a hard cross to bear if you can`nt let go .I agree ,this is your best to date Tara :o) Mick
Very well written...I have a long ways to go
t's a beautiful piece of work which has struck chords with so many people...and it's a thoughtful sympathetic piece. I think most of us have had the experience of 'letting go' and ,yes, it can be very hard, Thank you.
Powerful, moving words!
