Description
An old fishing village called Lapakahi on the other side of the island. The weather is hot and dry here. Just be careful when you light up your outdoor cooking stove, stay away from the house. Aloha and thank you for viewing
please note: Lapakahi fishing village grass shacks house had been restored to re-enact olden times. The rock walls are the original foundation of the house and laid in place about 600 years ago (or more).

Interesting great capture!
Great shot. I have been on the other side of the Island (Oahu) and there are not many tourists, and it is dry and windy with some awesome surf!
I love that this is still there--beautiful shot!!
Interesting photo!
Stellar POV and mood in this capture of the house, which looks like a veritable firetrap, Shark. For sure, that structure has seen much better days during its long existence.
Great find!
Very cool capture!
that thing would be fast kindling.very interesting.your islands is among the last places one can make their own house out of material like this and be natural
Wonderful find and capture! Is it still used for anything besides photographic fodder?
COOL SHOT
Definitely says something about those that built and cared for it that its still there. Great capture.
MrsRatbag...It was turned into an historical site and protected. It goes back about 600 years ago when the fishing village was last active. More than likely it was abandon because of no water and the dry hot weather. It is a great area to collect salt. I have fished off the shores of this area and always saw this landmark. Only till now after all these years that I left my foot prints here. Thanks for asking. Aloha
It's amazing that those fibers can stay intact that long without decaying? This is a very cool image Errol!!!!! Very well done!!! Aloha...
Wonderful capture!
Thanks for the info...what a great slice of history.. Aloha
Whew one spark and it's history....Nice bit of history here Sharky, and a nice image to view...! Aloha~
Coming from a fishing village on the Gulf, I can only wonder at the many bugs that hide in that thatch. :-) It's sure a big fisherman's house and seems very well made. Fantastic!
Cool shot Errol. I love anything with a little bit of history tagged onto it. Hot, dry and no drinking water would be reason enough for me to move on too :) Excellent capture on your part. Bill
Great find and image Errol!!! Luckily we are getting some regular rain showers now!! :)

You have caught a very interesting piece of history. Here in Spain there are abandoned villages in the mountains and it's like walking into another world. Super photo.
