Description
The Raffles, located on Beach Street, is the best known hotel in Singapore. It is an architectural landmark and has been classified by the government as part of Singapore's 'cultural heritage'.
The Raffles was opened in 1887 by the Sarkies brothers during the height of the British Empire. It is mentioned in novels by Joseph Conrad and Somerset Maugham and recommended by Rudyard Kipling for its food.
