A little more impasto on this one. I like it. Great for getting rid of the curse of 3D. There's even a layer where the paint is so thin you can see the canvas texture, nice detail.

Another hit evoking a classic mystery pulp. I REALLY like the play of light and shadow here, plus the woman is SO sexy. I think it's really the pose, the way she nestles into his body for protection. This pose, and her wonderful expression, combine to create a strong sense of erotic energy cuopled with a sense of menace. Well done! Although I like the shadows, they seem a bit too deep on his hat and gun. There aren't enough highlights on these two items, and they just seem to blend into the background. I'm really wondering if a small spot on the gun wouldn't make it more visible and generate a bit more tension in the piece by making us ask questions, like "Who he's waiting for? Who is this woman? Why is she in danger?" I'm also puzzled by the text. It seems to be too big and it crowds the gun a bit much. And what's going on behind the text? I can't tell what that splash of red is. Is it blood from a cut, or part of her dress? Or is it a stripe on his pants? I'm just not sure. This is one place where deeper shadows would minimize the interference with the lettering and improve legibility. Nevertheless, I'm just ramblinb now. I really like this image of Commander X and his Lotus Flower. It's a great yin-yang image of eroticism and tension -- just the sort of pulp I'd buy! Thanks for posting it!

This has got to be one of your best. The power of the brushstrokes particularly on Commander X's sweater reminds me of the Haddon Sundblom school, Gil Elvgren and the like. Wonderfully inspiring stuff - I'm considering delaying my next post and giving it the Mikeall treatment! Gary
