Description

Well it is my first one on here at least, I do have one other but it was many years ago on 35m and not a good one at all. I do not know what species this is so If you know please tell. I spent half a day in Whitby today with Alan(artaddict2) and a few more people(not photographers). I went off on my own and found this little beauty at the side of the road. The top picture showing it in all its glory, the bottom picture it got a bit windy and it folded its wings and as you can see its under wing is black. At first I thought I had got too close and it had flown and left a dark leaf behind, it wasn't until I zoomed the image on the camera that I saw it was the under wing. Alan went up to the Abbey and I'm sure he will be posting something from there himself. I got to the bottom of the steps(199 in total) and decided not to try as I was already in some pain. So unfortunately I did not get any good pictures of the Abbey proper, just a few from the other side of the bay. Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments you care to make. We had good weather in North Yorkshire but it was raining when I arrived back home in Lancashire. I hope you had a pleasant day where ever you where.

Well done that man! It's a Comma. Wind is the macro photograhers nightmare, you did well. I think I might have given 199 steps a miss, I'm dog-tired at present (!)

You got a great result with this Jeff, Its not a common butty from our parts near to where we live, I'm not sure if I have seen one apart from in books. Although I certainly HAVE heard of the name 'Comma' though. Thanks to Andrea! I really enjoyed the day, I only wish we had more time so we could continue with the camera. Well done mate!

You can't miss with butterflies can you? When it comes to 199 stairs, I share your pain and would have joined you in the garden. Good job here. Bill
