Description
Two view of an Italian M13/40 on display at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. It shows the problem of leaving a historic vehicle out in the weather for many years. The hull hatch on the left side was wide open so one can easily see inside and view the interior damage. Fortunately this tank is still in good enough shape for a complete restoration, but for how long?
The M13/40 was not the best tank in the desert of North Africa, but it was useful with its 47mm gun when handled properly. The British used captured M13/40s during the lean times of 1941

BTW: The top photo was taken in 1995 and the tank looks pretty much the same on the outside in 2008. The interior photo was taken in 2008. The PzKw IV in the background has been refurbished and is in my gallery. (Hopefully the insides of the repainted tanks in my gallery look as good as the outsides.)

The twin tandem road wheels are cool. Not every one was as taken with the removeable style tracks large road wheels with slack top run of Russian tanks. I always have to put on my other hat and join the non-coms when looking at tanks as I spent my war years exclusively with officers. The desert reference hopefully opens a door to communication.
Another winner from the Aberdeen series; makes me want to start building 1:35 models again; good work, bud!!

Wow!! what a difference between outside & in... Looks like a lot of the planes at the local Museum.... Outside not bad but really rough on the inside... Excellent shots, Hope they restore it ..

So sad, so much easier (and cheaper) to slap a coat of paint on the outside. However I must applaude the huge selection at APG, the time and cost of full restoration is frightening, so as long as they're available for future viewing they have to be better than any photograph.For those of us who can't get to ABG thanks for bringing it to us with your great pictures.
Rust pours like rain off of it soaking into the ground. The stains on the concrete are a testament to the difficulty in taking care of them.

A great, but sad picture! The Proving Grounds needs an indoor facility to keep these rare AFV's. (Check out Bovington web site!)I'm planning a visit there soon. BUT! I spot in the background LOADS of really cool stuff. Looks a great place for a scout around!! Great shots, my friend, Rob.

A favorite passtime of mine...looking through a field of old armor. The last time I visited Aberdeen must have been 40 years ago. I'll look around in your gallery and add you to may favs... Years ago I was both a student and later an instructor at the Armor School at Fort Knox. Bill
