Description

Before the war now referred to as "Humanity's First Interstellar War" a small number of ships were built that were often called "the Nautilus Series" by observers, as the ships always seemed to make the observer think of Jules Verne's classic: "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". A few decades before the war broke out, their maker introduced a newer model, intended to be mass-produced and widely used as personnel transports. The rotating engine pods tended to have disappointing performance, however, and the mechanism to rotate them was very high-maintenance. Still they made very picturesque starships, and enjoyed a brief period of celebrity-status as a result. ========= My first new model in a while, I wanted to revisit one of my favorite ships and update it. On the whole, I really like the design, but as usual for me, I can already see things I'd like to improve... Ships were modeled and rendered in Bryce 6, textures are a mix of my own and presets. Compositing, background and effects are all Photoshop CS3. Thanks for taking a look, and comments and suggests (and even requests!) are always welcome.

Both ships are stunning--performance issues aside, for one of them. I love this render, especially since it's dripping with your signature style of feasibility, visual distinction, and an inherent sense of drama. The unfolding narrative that you present is just as intriguing and sets this and future scenes wonderfully! As always, great work!

Nice. I like the nearer one better than the farther one. One thing missing is a sense of scale; I'm not sure if that mesh structure behind the front model is a walkway or a cargo net, or something in between.
