Description
I went to a park in Arlington Texas Friday and just after I entered a forested walk path, I was lucky to see a Giant Swallowtail fly right by me and land.it stayed long enough for me to get 20 shots
The Giant Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio cresphontes) is a swallowtail butterfly common in various parts of North America, particularly the south and east. With a wingspan of about 10-16 cm , it is the largest butterfly in the United States.
The adults' wings are black, with two striking yellow stripes across the forewings and hindwings.
Giant Swallowtails feed on the nectar of a variety of flowers, but are known to enjoy azalea, bougainvilla, goldenrod, Japanese honeysuckle, and milkweed .

A really lovely photo. It's so hard to get these little guys to stay still for a picture. They tend to flutter about so much. Great detail and wonderful color. Glad to see a posting from you. Hope all is ok in your neck of the woods as far as Ike is concerned. Nice work!
Amazing macro--love your images of insects, very intense. Superb work, Richard!!!!!
Fantastic shot!!!!
Very nice shot! Very happy that the effect of the hurricane has not broken your talent.
Great capture of a real Beauty. I have seen a few of these but never managed to get a shot yet. Thanks for sharing and hope you made it through the storm ok. I lost power for over a day and had a few big trees blow over along one of the creeks that meander through my property. Lots of people in Texas were not so lucky unfortunately. Lee
