Description

This beautiful Broad-winged hawk is free today, released on Saturday, August 31. This photo was taken with the bird in hand, just prior to going into the carrier to take to the release site. This beauty was free..and did not yet know it. In a couple of weeks, these hawks will begin migration to tropical areas, likely through Mexico. Solitary daily, in migration the broad-winged will gather in very large groups and do it together. Perhaps this one will travel with the companion released the same day. We have no way to know. The birds are on their own now, as they want to be. I hope you do not tire of the bird images. This is part of me now and shoot what I can when I can. Some are decent enough to post. I love this! Check out http://www.ltwc.org/ to see other animals that are rescued, rehabilitated, and then released in the Lake Tahoe area, and other areas as well.

He looks ready yet tentative as if deciding how brave he really is. Much like humans I believe. Wonderful job, Tom.
