Rob (debbielove) and neiwil both said that they would rather be in a PzKw IV circa 1940, here is what they would have been riding in - an early model with the short barel 75 mm gun. There were not many of these in action in 1940, but some took part in the western blitzkrieg. This is another refurbished tank at the U.S. Army Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
Now, can you name the AFVs in the background? I'll admit to not knowing what the big green one in the far distance under the tree is, but how about the other ones?

Side armor makes me say Centurion and no turret says Jagdpanzer. The Abrams changed that. (side armor) This little fellow has pre-Skoda works road wheels.

Nice MkIV D, in the colours of the 15th panzer regiment "Deutshe Afrika Corps" no less! For the Armour recognition quiz!! the one to the left of the MkIV is a Cheiftain, the first one to the left is the JagdTiger followed by the Sturmpanzer IV Brummbär, SU85 or SU100 hard to tell, cant really tell what follows the SU´s but the last on might be a JagdPanzer IV L70 the nose & barrel are indicative, either that or a Hetzer

Tests, tests ,tests. Boy this has become like school. Let's see 75mm L24, 120mm, 120mm, The big green thing under the tree is indeed a big green thing There appears to be two of them. I'm happy with my answers. I think the last one is indeed a Hetzer..unless it isn't. Think I've covered my bases here pretty well. Nice detail picure of the Mark IV ;)

In spite of the relative inaccuracy of the short-barrelled 75, this is still one of my favorite Panzerkampfwagens. Great photos, bud!
they all look pretty sturdy to me. if faced w/ the enemy, i'd rather be in ANY of the above, than out of one!
Thanks everybody. Tryphon was very close with his picks and actually got 3 right with 2 close. The tanks are; Chieftain, JagdTiger, Sturmhaubitze 42 (Stug III with 105 mm howitzer - a tough ID for anyone. It did lead to the Mark IV Brummbar.), SU-100, the green blob is probably a USA M55 self-propelled 8 inch gun, and what looks like a Hetzer is a Jadgpanzer Kanone with a 90 mm gun developed by the Swiss and Germans in the 1960s - another toughie. The Swiss also used the Hetzer btw.
