Description
My wife originally soptted this guy on one of our walks at the local Wetlands. She said it was bright orange and looked like a 76 antenna ball..lol.
When I finally found it a few seconds later, I was blown away! We generally don't have this brightly colored type of birds around here in So Cal in the wild. [and it seems this one really should be in Africa, but due to pet escapes, they are now making So Cal a new home!]
So I went back and got some photos of this guy a week or so ago. The ones I got back then were from quite a distance and not to clear.
After seeing him again and again on my evening walks at the small wetlands, I decided that I was going to make a mission to get a good photo of him.
So early morning this week I went out and trekked off the trail (I know, I know.. bad!) and climbed/hiked to the other side of the water (the side he seemed to prefer) to try to capture this fella.
Finally after 2.5 hours I got some decent shots. And just as I was about done letting my camera shot off as many shots as the memory card could handle in a row, the sprinklers came on! I didn't get soaked, but it did cause me to have to move my camera bag and then the bishop took off.
But alas I got the photos and here is one of them.
Thanks for looking.

Wow, what lovely composition with all those reeds! Great contrast between the red on the bird's feathers and the green background, too. I'm glad you got so close, I know how difficult it is getting close to a bird (and the ones around here are tame). Awesome shot.
Fantastic photo and really a nice bird. Well worth the trouble I think.
Very impressive, glad you had such determination. Well done
