Description
AloooooooHa!
Another shot from this weekends outing with Sharky at the Waikupanaha lava flow into the sea. I choose to stand and shoot from the same spot the whole night as I was unfamiliar with the terrain. It was quite dark as you expect at 3:30am and I wasn't about to take a fall with my camera equipment. Mean while Errol was wandering all over the area looking for lava outbreaks, and every once in awhile I could see his headlamp glowing in the distance. Errol provided me with a small walkie talkie which came in handy after an hour of not hearing from him. That was a great idea as we could get in touch with each other...I worried about him walking around in the dark like that. But he's a great hiker, and knows the terrain well, even in the dark.
Once again Madam Pele delighted me with a fire show that was way better than any fireworks show I've ever seen. Those guys sitting on the ridge are actually about a 100 yrds. from the lava plume....still to damn close for me. I estimated the explosians at about 30-50 ft. above the persons in the foreground. As with all my images bigger is better for viewing.
Thanks for your many comments on my previous posts and I hope you enjoy the view as much as I did....Have a great weekend everyone and get those killer shots! Aloha~

Wow its just such an amazing view, great shot.
Another great shot David. I am glad you and Errol had such a wonderful shoot. Now I can look at your pictures without getting broiled...... Nice going. Aloha
Excellent shot!!!
More awesome shots of this show--wow!!
Splendid image!!! :)
So these crazies sitting up closer to the lava, if a drop lands on them, won't it just burn right through them? It's a great shot, and I thank you for showing us through your eyes what you have experienced - and thanks for being smart enough to stay where you were - I like seeing your pictures and don't want to wonder what happened to you - lol
You're right, Dave, this is better than any fireworks show. Bravo!
wow....!
You can watch these beautiful fireworks of lava and never get tired. Next time, will bring some nice comfortable chairs and stay the whole nite. Aloha
Marvellous photo! and your narrative conveys the excitement so well.
So fascinating and intimidating, I bet the live show is even better than any image can produce.
Very impressive colours and work. So powerful
I like the rich, delicious colors here better than the last shot; it looks like an explosion of red hot curry sauce. The soft tones that the long exposure time has lent this scene get a great sense of motion and the surrealism of watching such an epic natural event. Awesome on many levels.
Fantastic capture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing pytotechnics, and stunning shot!
Una hermosa fotografĂa como todas las tuyas, y agradezco la oportunidad de poder ver todos estos lugares maravillosos, muy bien hecho!
