Description
Tonite I am starting a little series of firsts. There have been many firsts since I got my camera in January of this year, many firsts since moving from Washington state to Central New York...but this little series are firsts ever in my life. I took a little nature walk the other morning before work, very little since I live in the city, and this first image is from a pathway that runs between two houses next door two me. Its actually two vacant lots back to back and the path is a favorite spot of the drug dealers from late spring to the middle of the snow filled winter.
On this particular early morning I veered off the path a bit because I saw something red in the shadows. Turns out it was this tree, a tree covered in berries. I have never seen berries on a tree! I asked some of the old timers here about it but no one knows what it is or maybe they just never noticed it or have forgotten. And no one knew if the berries are edible...Whatever the case its a first for me. There was a squirrel hidden up there that was munching happily away quietly as he watched me:-) So quiet and so hidden that I did not see him till I opened the 2nd picture on my pc.
Thanks for looking and for previous comments!

Nice shot and detail, well done...
great shot...
Lovely mix of colors and so sad to hear what the area is used for where the tree grows. This tree is well know in Africa and is sort of an invader, that's how well the European tree made itself at home here. It is a Black Mulberry - I stand to be corrected though.
Lovely capture!!!
Oh Lynn - they sure look yammy enough to eat. I think I agree with Piet - it looks like it could be the Black Mulberry. Just make sure though... :)
They look good to me!
Great shot ! Don't if it is muleberry or raspberry.
excellent capture, those do look good. :-)
Great find and capture! I was surprised to find a tree full of fruit like this in Omaha in 79...my first extended time away from NH. I never did know the name.
Cool looking shot.Nice to find some thing like that in the city
They look delicious! Nice capture!
Simple and magnificent!
Nice shot, Lynn. Great light. I haven't got a clue what this tree is - can't even think of anything close. Great story about the squirrel.
yum yum! great shot!
They are mulberry ... fruits similar to the BlackBerry ... but much more sweet and tasty! Very nice shot! :)
'Here we go round the Mulberry bush........ on a cold and frosty morning' I wonder how that nusery rhyme came about.
gobble, gobble,.....gack! no, they don't look poisonous....sort of look like raspberries so go ahead and chow down! ; )
PS SOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY to have been a part of ANY firsts for you~! wado~
Well done, my frind! Alex is right, they look like raspberries, but on a tree? Very strange, be sure to find out what they are before you eat them, K? Nicely done, thanx! :)
