Description
Laguna de Arenal is the largest lake in Costa Rica and is located northeast of the Cordillera de Tileran visible in the distance. It was formed when a dam was built in 1973 across the Rio Arenal. This reservoir supplies water for Guanacaste and hydroelectricity for the region. It also provides recreational opportunities for sailing, wind surfing, and sport fishing.
