Description
Yes this is in the wild where the rubber meet the road. I saw this gator the first time on Sunday but it was too dark to get any photos. So i went out to Lake Martin yesterday and got some shots. I like this one and I did not add the sparkly at it moujth. it there by nature. the sun is in back for the sun is setting; It about 4pm at the time of the shoot. I got to go back in the morning on saturday or sunday to get the light in the eye itself. I did put on my 500MM lens but most of the shots was not good. I have to hand hold it. i put the window halve way up turn off my engin and rest the camera on the window for these shots. I could have pick up the iso and a highter shooting speed but I did not hopeing to get a clearer image.
I know better than get out the truck and set up my tripod. LOL my tripod be no leg tripod and me too.
Yesterday I saw two teens by the gator with a dog. They did see the gator swimming around but they keep on walking. I stopped and told them it a mother so she may go after them . They hop in the truck with they dog and I drove them to the docks. One boy say he did get chase by a gator one time and hope to never get chase again.
Thought of the eye as a loveing mother watching over her eggs.
I hope to get a shot of the nest lol forgot to look for it. I was photo shoot the mother and that all I was thinking about at the time .
Over two thirds of the photos was no good for camera movement. I going to put on my cable to click next time. I think it when I press the button on top that move the camera so much
thanks for looking and comments

here I used the 250mm with the 2x to make it 500MM. But my 500mm mirror len witht the 2x will get the eye of the gator. I got some but most not too good. I may upload one tomorrow

great shot! living in gator country one should know "dog" is a favorite delicacy. nice rescue.
Great capture, Jock!
This capture is already impressive by itself, but after reading your narrative, I nearly got goose flesh on my arms:-)Excellent photo!
Fantastic shot. I love the surface of the water!
You live in a pretty interesting place jock! Nice capture and I like that natural sparkly at its mouth. Sweet shot you got here, me likes!
Wow..it's a big one! love the effect of water! Great shot :)
One of our companions and to be respected.
awesome shot of your mother crock jock!!!
Exceptional! Jurrasic Park! Love the natural sparkle too. You a brave man.
Excellent capture !! This really shows how smooth they glide in the water , hardly a ripple ! You are more brave than I am .. LOL .. !!~BRILLIANT~!!
I really love the colors in this one. Splendid shot!
If you'd ever met my mother, you'd know how true this is! Great capture!
great shot jocko!
Wonderful! It's like a hunt-- a big game hunt-- and an adventure, and you're still on it. I see that eye and wonder if like with bears you're not supposed to look or are you supposed to keep your eye locked to hers so she'll stay still. Remember those old drive-in theaters? And A&W Root Beer? They had these trays that hooked on the rolled down window. One of those would work for you a tripod of sorts. Good look with the lighting. If you can borrow a laptop, you can review your images right in the truck, and stay put until you get the one you want. I usually can't do that, though, because too much sun to really see the monitor, so I only check mine at the end of each day. But it's a thought....
Belle photo :)
Holy Croc ;-)
outstanding! This is so full of life with a dangerous edge to it. Marvelous!
It is a god thing not to mess around when a mother is protecting her young especially if it happens to be a big alligator like this.Real good picture.
Great shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I heard a joke about the swamps in Louisiana and gators.a Cajun family had several children and one day a gator got on and killed it.the man was mad . still yet another day and another kid.the man blew his cool and told his wife that he was not having sex with her to feed the dam gators!!! you may have saved their life and the old man will not be working at night for the gators!!!
Stellar clarity and light/shadow effects in this wonderful capture of the mother gator looking for someone to chew on and gobble up, Jock!
Gorgeous image! ROBY ;O)
Great shot, Jock, that's about as close as I'd ever want to get!!
