I'm always amazed at how people do up their balconies in Berlin. The flowers and creativity expended to get a sense of nature in one's own "backyard" is amazing. The Japanese do the same by miniturizing everything (also because they have less space) with bonzai, koi and zen gardens. It's a testament to our need to be in contact with nature ... and Germans sure are nature lovers. By the way, Berlin has the most lakes, rivers, canals and forest of all cities in the world, so maybe this accounts for some of the need to "take it home." Excellent picture!
