Description
It was an Amish holiday and these teenagers were getting ready to play volley ball. They used buggies to anchor the nets. All the buggies used to anchor the nets were pulled from the adjacent farm onto this field by girls. The boys did not help at all. In this picture two girls are pulling another buggie into this field. The girls either wore black stockings or were barefoot.
This picture was taken on 5 June 2006.

Just a great capture of an always fasinating subject.
Stunning capture Sig and I agree with Bruce - a fascinating subject! :)
Knowing in theory about the Amish is one thing - to see a pic like this is another! I´ve learned a much about these people. This pic is stunning as yours from yesterday. Greetings!
excellent image Sig, Amish country is most beautiful and you captured a moment of it wonderfully, great work !!
Excellent shot, fantastic details and beautiful light
And critics want the photos to be obvious without resorting to caption.
Beautiful photo.
A fascinating capture of these teenagers
wonderful image!
Very very interesting! I wouldn't last long in that community, we were created equal!
...sehr interessante Aufnahme! Ob die wirklich "Teenager" sein dürfen? Auf jeden Fall mal wieder ein Einblick in das Leben der "Anderen" !
Awesome capture.... I thought i could see only in the movies something like this, well done ... Wonderful picture.
fascinant !
Excellent series that reveals some of the true lifestyles of these people. Thank you for sharing these, Sig.
Very interesting picture Sig and thanks for the info and sharing with us! Cool :)
fantatic shot .. we have an area here also with the Mennonites ..they farms are huge &gorgeous and their crafts are so wonderful
Nice capture. I didn't know they played volleyball. Or even played without shoes. Very interesting shot. Aloha
Excellent and intersting shot. I know Amish poeple only from TV.
very nice shot !!
Were they aware you photographed them? From my experience (50 years ago...LOL) they did not like having a picture taken of them. It promoted vanity, etc. This is a very interesting shot. I never saw the young play games but I would see them doing chores or making things. Stellar shot!
great capture Sig, very interesting subject, i think it must be very dificult to get photograph of this people, excelent capture, bravo !
Great shot ! Nice serie about the Amish !
Excellent capture.
I see them pulling the wagon. cool shot of them. no idea why the boys did not help?
Excellent candid capture of people who live in another time. Setting up volleyball must be considered women's work. Either that or the boys are being lazy. The American Amish are descended from the Anabaptists of Europe.
Interesting photo!!! :)
Well things have changed in the Amish communities, I have never seen the young ones have fun, I mean volly ball, the girls will have to jump about and their skirts might raise up a little. #;0). I always understood the Amish were stict in the raising of their familes and boisterous behaviour was only for boys and not too much of it either. So this is nice to see, the young ones enjoying something. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!
Fascinating peek into a different culture.
outstanding work Sig. I love their pastries but I quit eating. there is a store about 40 miles from me, but I resist the urge to go there.
Beautiful shot and facinating information. A wonderful image to share.
