Description
Roe deer are native to Britain, having been present since before the Mesolithic period (6000 to 10000 years b.c) Forest clearance and over-hunting led to roe deer becoming extinct in England by 1800 but remained in wooded patches in Scotland.
Several reintroductions during Victorian times and their subsequent, natural spread aided by an increase in woodland and forest planting in the 20th century has meant that roe deer have become widespread and abundant today.
This Buck seemed oblivious of our presence, and his mate you can see hidden in the long grass at the back had 2 kids. While we waited a long while for them to come out to complete the family group it was not to be.

Brilliant!
Wonderful photo of this deer. I always catch my breath at the sight of deer. Such handsome and special creatures. Glad they are now abundant in your country.
Beautiful animal. Aloha
Nice one Danny, pity the mate didn't show, we have them around Rochdale, I have had to get a team to remove more than one after RTA's. One in particular was about five minutes walk from where I live, it had tried to cross the Ring Road and had been hit. The location was in a slight valle where the River Roch crosses underneath, and the shame of it is it was a quite time for traffic in that area. It was still warm when I got to the scene as well. He had a nice set of antlers as well, I took photo's of it but they were left on my works PC when I was retired, they will have been deleted now. Superb capture of this one, especially as you were out in the open, I know they are quite skittish. It looks like you have indeed found a little bit of paradise, a Red Fox yesterday and a Roe Deer today, I can't wait for tommorrow. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!
