Description
Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand held image.
This is not the image I said I was going to post tonight but I decided to make a last minute substitution. The female Eastern Pondhawk image I had intended to post was a different POV from this weeks series. I managed to get a better fit for continuity, lol.
This is one of the bigger species I see (about 2" long). The males actually look almost black unless the light is just right (as in this instance. The females are yellow and brown.
They perch often and will return to the same spot repeatedly. They are not overly skittish. Both these traits make them good subjects, lol.

masterful shot, great detail right down to the lace wings. color is beautiful, the blue specular component is excellent...probably difficult to appreciate unless like you say it usually presents itself as black.

I could look at different species of Dragonflies all day long, I am facinated by the wings, the fine skeltal structure covered with a gossamer like skin. the intricacy of the whole structer of how they attach to the body. I would say they are my number one favourite of flying insects. Been an interesting week of uploads Lee, I look forward to the next. Superb capture, presentation and narrative. Bravo!!!!!

Wow, what an excellent shot! I just love dragonflies, and they are difficult to capture as they are extremely busy. Those colours are awesome. I shoot one the other day, and I just realized at that moment how tricky it can get. But it does help when they return to the same spot over and over again. :)
