Description
Here's the newest member of the Songbird ReMix family, the Bananaquit. It's a very small bird, a little over 4 inches (11 cm) head to tail and found from tropical Southern Mexico to the Amazon Basin.
It primarily feeds the nectar from flowers. The Bananaquit pierces flowers from the side, taking the nectar without pollinating the plant.
It often visits gardens and may become very tame. Its nickname, the sugar bird, comes from its affinity for bowls or bird feeders stocked with granular sugar.
