Description
This is a large and beautiful hawk with a distinquishing reddish tail..however, many variations of color appear and this eastern bird shown is as much an original type as any. I will try sometime to get a shot of this bird's tail to show the color and lack of banding.
Called buzzard in other countries, buteos like the Red Tailed are soaring raptors.
This is a real doll..lovely and she was accepting of my presence. I did not get so close to crowd her space. The females and males of raptors are look alikes, not like song birds with colorful males and more camouflaged females. The kestrel(in earlier post) is an exception with the male more colorful. With other raptors, size is the difference with the females larger.
Size: 45-65 cm (18-26 in)
Wingspan: 114-133 cm (45-52 in)
Weight: 690-1460 g (24.36-51.54 ounces)
I am loving my opportunity to visit these special parts of creation!

Beautiful creature! I had a long talk with the local raptor rescue people who had a stand at a show I attended yesterday, they are nearly all birds who have been shot at.
