Description
Hi, all, I'm back after spending last weekend in Las Vegas then trying to catch up with all the stuff that didn't get done at home. Vegas was about as bad as I expected, but we did get to Hoover Dam and out to Red Rock Canyon, about 10 miles west of town. It's really a beautiful place, especially if you go early enough so it's not blazing hot.
I haven't tweaked the color on this; it really is this red. It's hard to figure the scale on this, so I included a little hint. There are two people climbing these rocks. Can you find them?
I'm now about a million ebots behind, so I know I'll never catch up with comments. I'll try to give each one at least a view. I hate to miss any of the great photos that come through this gallery.

great capture...
I can't seem to see them??? beautiful image though!!!! I've wanted to visit this place, someday...
Yikes! I found at least one of them, maybe two. (Full view, 400%.) That is one big hunk of rock! Wow! Excellent image, my friend. I'm glad you were able to sneak out and get some photography in!
This is awesome. What a great view. And the color is rich without alterations. Fabulous shot!
what a wonderful place !
Good shot! It brings back memories, as I grew up in western Las Vegas. I used to hike those very same hills. (Yes, they are that red.) The cave in that area was bricked up after someone got stuck; it ruined all the fun of amateur caving for the rest of us. (It was a very tight squeeze to get in.) Allow me to put digits on your "blazing hot". Contrary to what the weather channels will say, the temperature regularly reaches 120 degrees F (47 C) in the hottest months. I got burns on my chest whilst taking prone shots in arroyo beds, so I measured the temp with an oven thermometer: 160 F! I appreciate what you went thru to get this photo, and I say "well done"! ;)
Reminds me of one of my favorite escarpments on Mars, lol. Very beautiful shot, but alien looking too.
Fantastic colors,details and view.Wonderful shot.
It must be huge land formation. I couldn't find the two people. Excellent job. Aloha
gorgeous!
Great shot and welcome back!
A wonderful shot, Dennis. I think I found the people, top right! Incredible place and capture. Welcome back. Diane.
Impressive rocks, fantastic colors and textures. Excellent shot!
Beautiful!
So very different from your verdant lush temperate rainforest images! This is magnificent :)
This is beautiful, Dennis. I have not seen this before and it makes me want to go visit the area. I love the color of the rocks and the various layers are really interesting.
Excellent!! No, I cannot find the climbers. ;o)
I can't find them either, but what an amazing shot! Beautiful!!
Thanks for sharing this great shot. I've never had any desire to visit Vegas.
I was in Vegas a few months ago but went the other direction to the Grand canyon (yes, in the winter :^). I saw this place on the map but didn't get a chance to get there. After seeing this I'll make time on the next trip. Superb shot here. I'd like to go climbing there myself.
Stunning capture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stunning Dennis! I see them, but having worked for 20 some years in this environment I am used to the scale of things!
Great shot of the rugged rocks here, Dennis. That certainly is a rugged landscape out there and you captured it well!
Well, I found them but I had to hunt! Great shot. I've been out there and you've captured it well. Yep, the rocks are red.
