Description
Still at Smith Rock. According to my local guide (Jill) the boulder that's balanced in the gap is called Monkey Rock. I think it looks like the bird, Woodstock, from the Peanuts cartoons. She says it looks much more like a monkey from the other side.
That's Black Butte in the distance.
This one is for my friend Doug (Unstrung65), because he loves the desert. When I showed him some of the pictures I took at Smith Rock, he made me promise I would post THIS one in particular. I agree - it's one of my favorites, too. Thanks for your feedback, Douglas - love ya, Babe! :)

Definitely Woodstock! Cool!
Excellent capture Tara, great POV and title, these rock formations you have shot are such a pleasing colour!
Beautiful contrast of colors between the rocks and the Black Butte. Wonderful rock formations and the balanced rock is so intriguing. Wonder if it well ever tumble. Superb photography, Tara.
Stupendous shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, what a great shot, perfectly framed!! As far as what it looks like goes, all I see is a rock~~maybe I need more coffee!!
WOW...this is a wonderful POV! Perfect in all aspects! :)
nice mood, great composition
Wonderful shot of the transition; shooting from the dry side, looking toward the wet side. It's also interesting that there is still snow up there. Black Butte is only 3000 feet tall.
Beautiful shot my friend.
What a great shot!. You are doing a wonderful job of showing how beautiful Oregon is. We have it all...ocean, mountains, fantastic waterfalls, rain forests and high desert. Ahh, life is good in Oregon.
A clever use of natural framing ... it certainly enhances the sense of distance. The colour differential is a textbook example of aerial perspective. Great photograph. Mike
Hi Tara May sure is a beautiful capture I can see why he wanted this one posted awesome can smile as the miles move on sweet weekend to you warm hug and love, Linda Kaye
wonderful work...well done
nice shot:)
neat framing
Beautiful shot, excellent sense of depth!
I like how you have used the rocks as a frame, its a brilliant shot and what a fascinating place. The first thing that stood out was the Monkey Rock and how precarious it looks. Well done Tara!
A beautiful perspective... awesome photo!
Very nice shot. And yes the rock looks like Snoopy's friend !
Super POV and DOF, along with splendid colors and rock textures, in this magnificent capture, Tara! And from this angle, Monkey Rock looks just like any other nondescript boulder. Incidentally, is that mountain in the distance named Black Butte? If so, what an unusual moniker for a mountain. Actually, I thought it was Mt Fujiyama at first.
Beautiful!
hahah, are you great at seeing funny things in these rocks! I see Woodstock, plain as day! Brilliant interpretation and photo!
i think like you it a bird. cool shot
We have a Black Butte here too. I used to live only a few miles away from it but it doesn't look like this. Ours is lower and has a big lake and it looks more like buttes and less like a mountain. this is really a fabulous shot though between the dusty rock.
Very nice framing Tara....great picture.
What a wonderful frame that rock makes and I think I agree it does look like Woodstock. Lovely capture.
....thanks ever so - Tara !! ------ that's a great shot if I ever saw one ---------- and though no one has commented on the dedication ( aw ! -- I'm definately outside the Render social loop - LOL !) ..... I am quite honored by it !.....XO
Lots of interesting faces on the walls that frames the snowcapped mountain. Lion on the right wall. Excellent shot. Aloha
A fav for sure. Great composition/framing, beautiful colors!
What beautiful colours and textures on these rocks! The framing of Black Butte is super!
