Crappie, hmmm, well we're our own worst critics. I like the grain of it and the sentimental posing, not sure about the lack of border but that's just me.

Didn't you do something quite similar a year ago? (Too lazy to check your many uploads...) I do like the composition and the light-dark contrast. But two things are not to my taste: - the apparent fold in the man's left elbow (to our right), even if it should be due to the lighting; - the rendering the man's skin. I may like pointillism, but not in a grayscales "photograph". But I notice that the others love this look. :-)
