Description
The African Fish Eagle is by far my most favourite bird - not necessarily because of its looks, but because of its very distinct call. There is nothing quite like being next to a water hole in one of the game reserves at sunset and hearing the call of one of these beauties. Just the thought gives me goosebumps!!
I caught this one with its prey. I find the image quite busy, however, getting a shot like this is very rare. We had a long debate whether it is a fish or some rodent that he is busy eating. I'll leave the decision up to you. *smile*
Thank you for popping by and for any comments you may wish to leave.
Hugs, Carin xx

Wonderful capture Carin, you are right it is busy, but as you say a one time oportunity...Nice work!
As you said, just getting a foto like this is a feat in itself, it's fantastic!! As far as his lunch is concerned, I think he's already cut it up into tiny little pieces and we'll never know what was on his menu!!
Sweetheart... I love this capture. The details of the eagle are set off by the texture of the large branch to make this "WOW"! Hopefully we will get a similar opportunity again, only then we will be able to debate the prey at the scene. smile 143 and T minus 116. Hugs & kisses, Bruce xox
Beautiful shot :)
It looks a bit furry for a fish but I wouldn't want to get much closer to check. Excellent capture Carin, you are very lucky to get this close. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!
As intrepid in your photography as ever - I don't find the shot overly busy - indeed I think the multiplicity of elements and textures puts this magnificent bird into a context. Another lovely slice of your fascinating wild life for which I thank you so much. Bravo, dear Carin. Hugs, Mike xx
Excellent capture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A wonderful shot, great!!
It is busy, but a beautiful shot of that magnificent bird. Thank you for sharing your part of the world, Carin.

A wonderful bird and a fine shot.
Super shot!
Amazing image... nicely done!
what a wonderful shot, beautiful color and sharpness
Beautiful bird and amazing shot,
Super capture Carin! Very different than the eagles here but beautiful in its own right. A bit bulkier I think and now you have me dying of curiosity what it sounds like, lol! I like that its somewhat camouflaged by the leaves:-)
Cool shot of the African Fish Eagle -- a species of raptor I never heard of before -- enjoying his brunch amidst the busy foliage. You must have caught this one many years ago, like in the mid 1980s, if this is a scan of a film negative.
Fabulous capture Carin, what a find!!! Great shot my friend, hugs Jane xx
Great find and a great capture!
WOW exceptional wildlife Eagal capture!!!! oh wow i have never been so close to one in the wild!! how exciting to get !!! looks like its a smaller bird of some sort to me !!! one to be proud of !!!
Wow, what a massive bird. Where I live there are a number of Ospreys, also known as fish hawks. They are large but not this big. Great shot.
This is an impressive capture of an impressive bird. Great capture, with a nice sense of intimacy, if that makes sense. I don't find this image busy at all, either. The branches add something to this. For me, the branches and the "business" adds quite a lot of environmental atmosphere and puts the eagle in it's native context. Brilliantly seen and wonderfully presented.
ohhh excellent !
Good action capture very rare to see, because they never seem to perch where a camera can reach them. Well spotted and captured!
being that close in the wild is awesome as your capture
Excellent capture Carin. It is true the African fish eagle call is like music on the ears.
A wonderful capture Carin. Looks difficult to photograph, Sig...
